How It All Started: A School Project That Changed Everything
Risk is Key wasn't born from a business plan or a startup pitch. It started as a school assignment. Vernell was tasked with studying an entrepreneur he admired, and he choseĀ Ralph Lauren. As he dug deeper into Ralph's story, something clicked.
"The more I researched his story, the more inspired I became," Vernell explains. "Looking at his example and at the brands my classmates and I were wearing, I realized I could create a brand that could be inspirational, relatable, and fun."
That spark of inspiration led to a bigger realization: there wasn't a brand that felt genuinely connected to Gen Z and young creatorsāa community-focused, fun, motivational brand that truly encouraged people to be themselves.
The Vision Behind Risk is Key
Vernell spent time exploring the streetwear scene and the communities forming around different brands. What he discovered was a gap in the market. "Most brands looked cool, but none really spoke to that inner voice that says, 'Take the risk. Be authentic. Believe in your dreams." he shares.
Risk is Key was born from that insight. It's more than just clothingāit's a movement. The brand exists to remind people that the life you want is always on the other side of a risk worth taking.
